For the tie dye obsessed, the projects never end. One constantly grapples with the question, “What ELSE can I tie dye?!” The struggle is real… This time, I’m tackling a small-scale, easy project that should be fun and super customizable! Why not tie dye hair accessories? Of course, my “easy” projects always seem to get more complicated than I expect… Come along for the adventure to see for yourself! 🙂

My first attempt involved these cute, bandanna-print scrunchies that claimed to be cotton. I had extra Tulip dye from a kit used in a previous project, so I go right to work.

Here’s what the scrunchies looked like with after dye application.

Here’s what they looked like after the dye had set and the scrunchies were washed… Yes, they are a much lighter color, which suggests that the fabric didn’t accept most of the dye. I’m guessing these scrunchies are actually a blend of dyable cotton and a synthetic fiber that doesn’t take this dye. (Grrrr) I like the pastel colors, but I still want to find a scrunchie that actually dyes the color of the dye!

Before ordering more scrunchies, I searched and searched online for an item that had reviews mentioning successful tie dye projects! I finally found some, and purchased them along with a new tie dye kit!

It’s dye time!

Whoa! Look at those colors!! I have high hopes for these turning out well!

While I was at it, I tried dying some headbands! Yes, it took a while to find these… The first headbands I ordered didn’t feel like cotton and did NOT fit my head! lol! These bow headbands, however, fit pretty well and felt like a soft cotton Tshirt!

Time to get dying!

You can check out the dying process in this video!

At long last, we got some colorful results! YAY!!!!!

I’m loving these transformed hair accessories!!! They will be really fun to wear and super cute to give as gifts. Now that I know what supplies to used, I definitely want to do this project again! I’m including links to the supplies I used that WORKED! 😉

I hope you all enjoyed coming along for this tie dye adventure! Stay tuned for more projects soon! 🙂 Stay crafty, Everyone!
